How to get advice

General Advice


Drop in:

Citizens Advice in the Borough of Wigan provides advice at our two town centre bureaux. (Leigh Bureau has wheel chair access). You do not need an appointment to attend our generalist advice sessions, just come along during office hours.
We have advisors who specialise in working with people who have mental health problems and a financial literacy worker as well as specialist advisers in debt, welfare, benefits and employment.

Appointments at outreach:


'We offer a generalist advice service at Ashton-in-Makerfield (Tuesday) and Atherton (Thursday).
Please ring 01942 267963 for an appointment.


Home visits:

We will visit the housebound or their carers who cannot attend the bureaux in order to give advice, complete forms etc. To access this service call 01942 267963

Telephone advice line


For advice over the telephone call 08701 264459 Monday to Friday, 10am - 4pm
Please have all relevant information to hand.
There is an out of hours pre-recorded basic advice line

Specialist Advice:

General advisers can refer clients to in house expert services in debt, benefits and employment. Clients needing specialist advice can use these services if they are referred by a CAB adviser.
